5k runners raise over £600 for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru

We had a great day yesterday raising money for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru by getting our trainers out and running 5k in our annual Charity Fun Run.

83 people braved the windy weather raising a total of £658. Groups of families and friends got involved, even bringing along their much loved pets.

Martin Jones completed the run in just 18 minutes and Julie Williams finished in 21 minutes.

Alzheimer's Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia. Someone develops dementia every three minutes and there's currently no cure. In Pembrokeshire, the Alzheimer's Society has a Dementia Connect service which provides practical advice and information for anyone affected by dementia. Furthermore, a Side by Side service is available in Milford Haven to match people with dementia with dedicated volunteers, enabling them to keep doing the things they love.

Tourism Manager, Karen Lewis said "We were absolutely delighted that 83 participants took part in this year's event raising a total of £658 for Alzheimer's Society Cymru. Whatever your age or ability, the annual Milford Waterfront 5k Charity Fun Run is about getting the whole family active, while having fun and raising as much money for charity as possible. We'd like to thank Tesco, Milford Haven for their continued support and urge people of all abilities to get involved next year".

We’re delighted that people now have the opportunity to run here on a weekly basis by taking part in parkrun. The 5k timed run starts at 9am every Saturday and participants can run, jog or walk, while pushing a buggy, carrying a child or even exercising their dog.
